Benefits of United New York Ambulance Network General Membership

Unified Voice. UNYAN provides a unified voice that speaks to our governments at the local, state, and federal levels. The most important benefit that we offer our members is a strong and unified voice. For example, thanks to UNYAN's hard work, the Legislature included in the 2005-2006 Budget an appropriation of two-million dollars for enhanced funding for emergency medical transportation services. This funding will be used to supplement the current Medicaid reimbursement rates for all emergency medical transportation service providers.

Lobbyist. Our lobbyist firm Crane, Vacco & Sanders keeps a finger on the pulse of state government for UNYAN, and keeps the board and UNYAN committees informed and abreast of what's happening in Albany.

Membership Meetings. Our meetings move around the state. We meet five times a year; typically, twice in the upstate area, twice in the Capital District, and once Downstate in the New York City region. This affords all of our members an opportunity for networking as well as evens out the travel burden. Member companies have found that we share the same challenges and problems around the state. The UNYAN meetings provide an excellent forum for an exchange of ideas and experiences.

Associate Membership. UNYAN's Associate Members (vendors) include businesses dealing in EMS supplies, technology and insurance. Most Associate Members provide UNYAN members with discounted rates and other preferential deals.

Information Resource. UNYAN headquarters serves as a clearing house for our industry.  State and federal issues dealing with Emergency Medical Transportation and pre-hospital care is regularly forwarded to the membership.

Lobby Day. The UNYAN Annual EMS Lobby Day is held in Albany every Spring. This event provides member companies the opportunity to meet with Assemblymembers and Senators to discuss EMS issues. In addition, each member company recognizes and honors their Outstanding Employee of the year at the UNYAN Recognition Banquet.

Disaster Response. UNYAN has developed a comprehensive Disaster Response Program, enabling us to quickly mobilize numerous ambulances and personnel to respond to disaster areas. The UNYAN Disaster Response Plan was activated for the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York City as well as more recently for both Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita. UNYAN is seen as a valuable resource by the New York State Department of Health for disaster response.
